Game Report:

Brisbane West Yellowcabs Lions survived a strong challenge by the Suncoast Lynx to sneak victory 42-46 in round three of the Holden Cruze Cup.

Sunshine Coast netball fans were treated to a spectacular game of netball with neither team able to secure a comfortable lead.

Lynx goal shooter Renee Kalao and goal attack Sarah Ruka were on fire for the home team, a much improved performance from last week.

Co Captain and Centre Simone Nalatu felt the Lynx were good in patches.

“It was a real see-saw game, and that showed on the score board for most of the game” she said.

The teams were unable to be separated in the first half, with the Lions finding some rhythm taking a three goal lead into the final term.

Momentum continued to build along with the lead for the Brisbane West side on the end of some excellent full court defence.

The Lynx showed some fighting spirit scoring two goals in the final seconds of the game but the late surge was not enough with the Lions too strong at the final whistle.

It was a disappointing loss for the Lynx after being tied with the Lions for the majority of the game.

Assistant coach Deborah Ruka believes the girls are starting to look more like a team with the standout performance for the night, Lynx fourth quarter wing attack, Bernadette Dench.

“Bernie brought a lot of speed to the game in the fourth quarter” she said.

Action will be on hold for the Holden Cruze Cup next weekend giving way to the Be Smokefree! State Age Championships in Ipswich.
